Hom Redesign & Renovation logo & branding design.

Husband and wife duo get a new brand to take their business to the next level.

Rebranding home renovation.

Finding the perfect solution for clients with an eye for detail.

Hom Redesign & Renovation sought Son of Erik’s help in designing a brand for their brand new business. Kim and Laura Palmer and Spencer Erickson of Son of Erik have known each other for years. Kim and Spencer worked together for a handful of years before both leaving that company.

MOOD BOARDS

On every branding package I do, I create a couple of mood boards based on the style preferences we have landed on through branding questionnaires and Pinterest boards. I send these to the client to make sure I’m on the right track before I start sketching logo concepts.

DIGITAL SKETCHES

Below you’ll see the initial 4 concepts I designed for Kim and Laura. These concepts were based completely on the research and information gathering I did before beginning to sketch. I always do my due diligence to try to ensure that at least one of the concepts will be the one to move forward with.

Things, however, don’t always turn out so perfect.

REVISIONS

“With logo design, it is never love at first sight.” - Sagi Haviv

Kim and Laura chose option 1 to move forward with. So, for the first revision, we played with color and thinned the custom lettering a bit.

I also try to provide some mockups whenever possible to help my clients see what vision I have for their overall branding, even if we won’t be tackling those things yet.

Home Body by Joanna Gaines

After a lot of deliberation, Kim called and said that they were sure about this direction anymore and that it just didn’t quite have the feel they wanted. So it was back to the drawing board.

Laura told me about a book by Joanna Gaines and that she loved everything about it: color palette, font, etc. So, purchased the book to have it have as a reference at my desk because you can never quite trust your computer’s monitor.

After some digging, I identified the font as Brandon Grotesque, which is included in Adobe Creative Cloud’s fonts, so we ran with that!

A Series of Micro-Revisions Later…

Nail the font.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Dial in the colors.

Iterate.

Sometimes it takes dozens and dozens of small iterations to make sure you are getting the exact right thing for your client. Laura, being an interior designer, understand paint colors like nobody’s business, but had a hard time landing on the perfect colors for her business because of the discrepancies you encounter when viewing colors on different monitors. What looked perfect to me just wasn’t quite right to her. It took quite some time, but we ended up nailing it!

What was the verdict?

Which logo design did Hom Redesign & Renovation choose?

Eventually, we were able to find the best solution for their business. We dialed the color palette in and refined the logo until we finished their beautiful identity design to match their impeccable reno work.

We covered a lot with this project, and that was just the logo portion! In this image you can see many of the collateral pieces we designed for Kim and Laura.

Business cards, open house poster, yard sign, website, and more!

This project was a challenge to get everything just right, but we were able to land on solutions that worked very well and set them apart in their San Antonio market.

There is no question who redesigned a recently listed home when the Hom branding is out front.
