K'Lani's started with a simple idea: bring together the best of Italian ice and gelato to create a frozen dessert experience worth getting excited about.
With a new business taking shape, the owners needed a brand that could capture the fun of their products and stand out in a crowded food and beverage market.
The goal was to create something bright, playful, and memorable, with enough personality to make customers crave something cold before they'd even seen the menu.
MOOD BOARDS
Setting the mood for something sweet.
For K'Lani's, we wanted to create a visual identity that felt fun, refreshing, and a little tropical. Something that could capture the laid-back personality of the business while still looking polished and professional.
We explored two mood board directions to establish the overall aesthetic, typography, and color inspiration before moving into logo design.
This helped narrow down the visual approach and gave us a foundation for developing an identity that would feel right at home on everything from a dessert cup to a food trailer.
DIGITAL SKETCHES
Three concepts. Plenty of flavor.
With the creative direction established, we developed three initial logo concepts, each exploring a different way to bring the K'Lani's personality to life.
The designs explored expressive lettering, playful imagery, and a relaxed, tropical aesthetic. We wanted the branding to feel approachable and energetic without becoming too busy or difficult to recognize.
Ultimately, the owners gravitated toward the second concept, which gave us a solid foundation to refine.

REVISIONS
Finding the right ingredients.
The second concept had the personality we were after, but the owners had some reservations about the original hand-lettered approach.
We decided to replace the custom lettering with a more consistent typeface that maintained the same playful character while improving the overall polish and readability.
From there, we experimented with color combinations and refined the supporting graphics. The original surfboard element was removed in favor of hand-drawn fruit illustrations and subtle background textures, giving the identity a stronger connection to the products themselves.
We also adjusted the lettering to a lighter color for better contrast, allowing the business name to stand out against the vibrant teal background.
THE FINAL IDENTITY
The finished K'Lani's identity brings together tropical inspiration, playful typography, and a refreshing color palette.
Vibrant teal establishes the overall look, while warm coral accents and a hibiscus flower add a little tropical personality. The cream-colored lettering provides contrast, and the hand-drawn fruit illustrations introduce texture and visual interest without competing with the logo.
A few final adjustments to the lettering and color palette brought everything together into a cohesive, recognizable brand.
And the best part? Seeing it come to life on the K'Lani's food trailer.
The oversized branding, bold colors, and playful graphics translated beautifully to a much larger format, giving the business a recognizable presence beyond its logo.
Proof that good branding should look just as good on the road as it does on a computer screen.
